what is a topic A topic is the message that the author wants the reader to understand when they finish reading. Topics are often important life lessons that the reader can connect with in a tangible way. A good topic will leave a reader making connections with the characters and their own life. A topic will sometimes be controversial or not have a clear answer, which can prompt the reader to ask deeper questions about the world around them. The topic is not always explicitly mentioned; sometimes the reader must deduce the lesson from context, dialogue, or events. A theme can be considered as the subject of a work or a speech. For example: "In his latest novel, the Chilean author addresses the issue of abandoned children", "The conference will address the issue of import restrictions", "What will be the subject of your next essay?"
